4 Ways to Free Up Extra Time For Your Business

4 Ways to Free Up an Extra Hour For Your Business It has been said that if you want something done, give it to the busiest person you know.  I believe this is because the busiest people have learned to become more efficient in order to get more done.  In fact, in my own life, usually when I am the busiest, the more I get done.

If you can find just 10 hours per week to work your home business, you can go a long way towards reaching financial freedom.  Work your business in 15 minute increments if need be, but find the time to put the effort into your business.  Not only will you make progress, before you know it you’ll have found the freedom you were looking for.

Here are some tips that should help you find that extra time each day.

1 – Combat Indecision –

Plan your day out the night before.  Create a list with the most important tasks at the top.  This way you’re less likely to be plagued by indecisiveness.  You already know exactly what you need to do, so you can go down your checklist without wasting any time figuring out what to do next.  Too many times people spend time each day worrying about small meaningless day-to-day decisions.  With a plan, you don’t have to think about it – just do the first thing, cross it off, and move onto the next!

2 – Schedule Specific Times to Check Emails –

How much time do you spend doing emails each day?  We all know the routine as soon as soon as you get in front of your computer: check emails, reply to friends emails, forward around a funny email and constantly press the send/receive button to check for new emails.  Did you know that recent studies suggest that emails can take up to 90% of your working day?  This is huge!  Save a lot of time by setting specific email times – ideally 1 or 2 hours each day where you reply to any emails that need action and read any emails of importance.

Besides, if you switch over to email every time you hear the email chime, you’ve broken your concentration.  Did you know it can take us 20 minutes or more to regain the same level of concentration after an interruption?

3 – Streamline Your Errands and Life Admin –

Visiting the bank, paying bills, food shopping – whatever it is, life admin takes up valuable time.  Whenever possible try to streamline these tasks to free up your precious time.  Some things you can do include: setting up direct debits so you never have to think about the process of paying another bill again, registering for online banking to avoid lines at the bank and shopping online to avoid having to go out to the grocery story and wait in line to checkout there.

4 – Wake Up an Hour Earlier –

This may seem like common sense (unless you’re like me – not a morning person!), but few people seem to link their apparent lack of time during the day with the time that they get up every morning.  Tim Cook, Apple’s new CEO gets up at 4:30am every day, which leaves him plenty of time to get on with his ridiculously hectic schedule.

Try setting your alarm for 15 minutes earlier every day for a week until you reach your target time.  When the alarm goes off, open your eyes wide and try not to blink – this will force you to wake up quickly and fight the urge to go back to slumberland.  With your eyes wide, get out of your bed which will make it a lot easier to stay awake than pressing the snooze button!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you really want to free up some time in your day then make a note of how you spend your time for a couple of days.  You’ll be surprised how much free time you actually have if you want it.  Now it is up to you to use that time well.
