There’s something that happens when you become a lifelong learner, and you decide to learn every single day and you put the habit of study inside your life.
There is lots of what we call dead time in the ordinary way of living. You’re putting on your makeup in the morning, you’re folding your clothes, driving the car, washing the dishes… and what many of us tend to do during those dead times is turn on the television. It could be CNN or some other programming… and there begins to be this noise in the background.
But our minds are always thinking. We don’t get a choice about whether we are thinking. We only get a choice about what we think about. So if you put the practice of study inside some of the times that you’re living life anyway, add study to it. You can actually sit down and study a program. You can study a book, or you can do these things while you’re doing those other mindless tasks such as applying your makeup, doing the dishes, or driving…

Back when that came out – it was a record back then – and that record sold more copies than any other record! Earl Nightingale told us the strangest secret in the whole world… that you become what you think about.
Now, when we become what we think about – if that’s really true – then we want to be careful about what we think about. So practice studying… pick one time in your everyday life when you know that you could add a few minutes listening to something to expand your mind.

Because as you’re going down life’s highway, if you even make a one degree shift – you go a mile down the road, six months down the road – you’ll find yourself in a whole new place. And that whole new place will be built on the awareness that you’ve grown and the difference it has made.

Some will want to listen to audio programs that will teach them a skill such as improving their communication or speaking skills or even to learn another language. For others, they like to listen to positive motivational materials to help install powerful belief systems in their mind to help them better achieve their goals. When you are working out or just doing chores around the house, it’s a great time saver to be listening to an audio program at the same time.
