Break Free from the Corporate Cubicle

Break Free from the Corporate Cubicle Are you a disgruntled 9-to-5-er who wants to escape the cubicle and find a new life outside of Corporate America?

They call it “working nine-to-five” or “the day job” – as if your life is split irrevocably into dissociated parts:  work, which you can’t relate to or carry out only grudgingly and disconnectedly; and “free time” – that small part of your life where you are free to live your true life.

For many, the only relief is TGIF and annual vacations.  And you can always call in sick when you are really desperate.

You keep working year after year, and then start looking forward to retirement.  And at the end, you get just a few years of “freedom”.

But you can break out!  The first step is to wake up and start taking responsibility for yourself.  Figure out what will give real meaning to your life and start working to make it happen.  There are so many opportunities out there just waiting for you to take advantage of them.

Here are some tips to help you get out of that cubicle:

Find an Opportunity or Business to Start –

Find something that you will enjoy doing, but also that will actually make you money.  Don’t get caught up in the trap of doing something because it sounds like fun, but doesn’t have the financial rewards.  Look at others that are successful in their home business and find out what they’re doing and how much they are making.  Pick an opportunity that is growing and will give you the opportunity to grow as well.

Get an Online Presence Now –

Setting up a presence online will help you start building your personal brand.  Social Media and having your own blog is a must.  It will help you network, connect with the right people and build an audience.

In fact, look into an online business.  These types of businesses require very little start-up capital and give you the flexibility to have both time and financial freedom.

Create a Business Plan –

If you’re leaving your corporate job, you want this to work for the long run.  With a good opportunity, it could possibly take you 2-5 years to get to the point where you can leave your job forever… but when you finally break free, you will never have to work in a corporate job again!

Be prepared to do what it is going to take.  Many people overestimate what they can accomplish in 1 year, but underestimate what they can do in 5 years.  Be there in 5 years, and you won’t recognize your life!

Start Meeting People –

People do business with other people.  By going out there and meeting other business owners, could-be-customers, or anyone else, it will help you establish a network of friends that would be a huge asset to your new business.

Work After Hours –

Start working on building your own business after hours. If you really want to escape that cubicle but you still need that steady paycheck, you have to put in the time around your corporate job to get yourself as far along as possible before letting go of that day job.

Work on Your Personal Growth –

Read books and listen to CDs to foster your personal growth.  Read Think and Grow Rich, and As a Man Thinketh.  Listen to the teachings of Wayne Dyer, Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins, Earl Nightingale, Dale Carnegie, or Denis Waitley to name a few.  Let them become your coaches and mentors.

Give it All You’ve Got –

Once you’ve figured out what you’re going to do, GO FOR IT!  No matter what, find the time in your life to make it happen.  Work your new business around your corporate job – before work, on your lunch hour, late at night… whenever you can.  Know that in the end it will be worth every effort you gave it.  You’ll be free from your cubicle and have a life of freedom!

The timing will never be perfect.  If you keep waiting for the right time, you’ll be waiting forever.  So spend some time looking at your options, decide what you’re going to do, and then make the leap.  There will be ups and downs – that’s part of it.  Hang on to your day job for as long as you need to make the transition.  But do it!

Living your dream isn’t easy, or else everyone would be doing it.
