Formula For Success

Formula For Success

Formula For Success

Tom Watson says, “Would you like to know a formula for success? It’s quite simple really.”

So would you like to know a formula for success?  …A really simple formula for success?  Now there is not one of us that doesn’t think we want success.  Of course we want success!

We want to succeed in our business, in our health, in our relationships, in our creative endeavors, in our money, in our freedom, in our ability to create what we want to create, and go where we want to go, and do what we want to do, and have what we want to have.  We want to have deep meaningful powerful relationships… all of the wealth of life!  We want that success.

So Tom Watson says, “Would you like me to give you a formula for your success?  It’s quite simple, really.  Double your rate of failure!

Ah!  I know you might be thinking, “Ugh!  I want more success – I don’t want more failure!”

And yet Tom Watson says, “If you want a formula for success it’s quite simple really.  The path to more success is to double your rate of failure.”  You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success, but it isn’t that at all.

That would be a brand-new idea for a lot of us.  That more failure is actually the roadway, the pathway, and the upward path towards more success…  Double your rate of failure.

Tom said, “You’re thinking of failure as the enemy of success, but it isn’t that at all.  You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it.”  So go ahead and make some mistakes.  Make all you can, because remember… that’s where you’re going to begin to find all your new successes.

Of course, we want to measure the failures we are going to choose.  For example, we don’t want to fail while driving or fail by falling off bridges.  We want to fail by being able to stretch ourselves, speak a little more, find a little more of our own true voice…

What would we really do if we wanted to expand and grow?  We would be willing to harness the idea that there is a problem with our thought process about making mistakes.  Every one of us learned to walk by falling down.  We learned to ride a bike by wobbling and crashing a few times.  You may have crashed in love.  You may have crashed in money.  You may have crashed in any number of things.  I have!

And yet what he’s saying is absolutely true because people – when they hit a failure of some kind – they either get better or they get bitter.  It isn’t the failure that defines that.  It’s the person.

So would you like to know a formula for success?  Double the rate of your failure.

And right now, let’s just harness all the failures we’ve ever had.  You’ve had a number.  I’ve had a number.  Everybody has.

Sometimes we think ours are the worst ones, or ours are the ones we need to keep secret, or ours are the ones that “if everybody knew…” But it isn’t like that at all.

Everybody compares their insides to other people’s outsides.  And the outsides look so great!

But truth be told, every one of us has had our own measure of failures.  It’s not the failure that defines us.  It’s how we define the failure.  It’s a learning opportunity.  It’s not really even failure – it’s feedback.  It’s an opportunity to learn, and go forward with that learning to a whole new level of success.

EXPECT Success!

p.s.  If you imagine a typical day in your head, starting at the beginning, it won’t take you long to come to the first occurrence of something you do mainly to avoid failure. Take a moment to imagine the best that could happen in that scenario and then choose to start there, adjusting your actions based on possible success instead of the fear of failure. And know this: it may not “work.” Failure leads to failure leads to failure…until it doesn’t!  Success ONLY comes after failure and usually that looks like this:

Failure ➜ Failure ➜ Failure ➜ Failure ➜ Failure ➜ Success!
