Gmail Launched New Category Tabs

About a month ago Gmail launched their new email category tabs.  Email is now sorted into separate tabs for Primary, Social and Promotions. I tried to hang in there for awhile, but I found that I just didn’t like it.

If you are like me and don’t like your email being sorted for you into categories chosen by Gmail, here are some instructions on how to get rid of that.

Step 1 – Click on the little “+” symbol at the top of your inbox, to the side of the category tabs.

Step 2 – In the category tabs option screen, uncheck (disable) all categories except “Primary”, and then click “SAVE”

That’s it.  Now your Gmail inbox is fully back in your control.

Alternative option if you like the tabs but want to continue to receive my emails.

If you prefer the new inbox with the tabs  but you want to make sure you receive all my emails – or anyone else who is important 🙂 – go into your “Promotions” category tab and find the email from me (or them). Then just click on the message header and drag the email up to your “Primary” tab and let it go.  This will move all emails from me (or the others you want to see) into your “Primary” category for this and all future messages.  You can apply this to any emails that you don’t want mixed in with regular promotions so you’ll have a greater chance of seeing them.

If you’re an internet marketer like me, this change is not a welcome addition to Gmail.  I highly recommend that you do what I’ve done and let your subscribers know how to disable this change, or at least show them how to be sure to get your emails in their primary inbox.

Thoughts?  Please share below.  If you found this helpful, it would mean a lot to me if you would share on your social networks  🙂

Let’s have some conversation!
