Success is different for everyone, and not everyone achieves success the same way.
True, there are certain characteristics that can’t be taught. But there are some habits that can really make a difference in your life if properly developed:
Get up early –
Waking up early allows you to get a head start on your day before anyone else is up and interrupting you. After all, the early bird catches the worm right?
Early rising is a common trait found in many CEOs, government officials, and other influential people. Margaret Thatcher was up every day at 5am; Frank Lloyd Wright at 4am and Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney wakes at 4:30am, just to name a few.
Now, I admit this is not one of my strong suites. I am NOT a morning person, but I keep working on it. As long as I don’t give up, there is hope!
Sometimes our mental health gets overlooked. Spend some quiet time inside your mind meditating or visualizing. Visualize the successes you will have each day, and even long term. See yourself as though you’ve already achieved that success. Even just a minute of visualization and positive thinking can help improve your mood and put you in a frame of mind to better solve any challenges you may be faced with throughout the day.
Keep your promises, no matter what –
Success is built on mutually trusting relationships. When you make a promise you want to keep it, and you want to become known for keeping promises.
Treasure your time –
Before pursuing any activity, ask yourself, “Is this a good use of my time?” And at each step of the way in accomplishing that activity ask yourself, “Is this the most time-effective approach?” You’re not looking for the best or the fastest, but the one that will make the best use of your valuable time.
Apply laser focus –
When you take on a project be laser-focused on getting it done well. Super performers take an idea and push it forward until it is completed the way they want. For the most part, they don’t jump from project to project – dabbling a little on many projects leads to mediocrity at best.
Become a storyteller –
The super successful people recognize that while they are mainly persuaded by data and logic, most people are more influenced by a story. So take the time to develop powerful stories and the art of telling them well. Remember, facts tell, but stories sell.
Don’t be afraid to fail –
In order to achieve success, you’re bound to fail a few times, and that’s OK. A failure is nothing more than a learning step – you have to know what doesn’t work before you can figure out what does work. Then you can make a course correction and continue to move on to find your success.
Many successful businesses ideas were born from looking for solutions to overcome struggles and challenges that were out there. But truly super successful people seek to solve problems in completely new ways. They open up their mind to enable them to conceive of all types of things, making sure there are no limits on their imagination.
As Henry Ford said, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said ‘faster horses.’”

p.s. Super successful people understand that the real value of their business lies in the team they create. They ask questions and actually listen to the answers before supplying answers of their own.
