I started marketing online way back in about 1998. The internet was really just getting started back then and I was just looking to have a page to support my hobby, square dancing. I originally created a website just for this purpose.
This video tells how I got started, how I use it to build my business, and what I learned along the way.
Here are some of the things I learned along the way:
Invest the time to promote your website. You can’t create a website about your opportunity and expect people to flock over to visit it. The web is a huge place and nobody will even know you’re there.
I started with my square dance club, and created flyers that I took around to other clubs that I visited. Little by little, word of mouth helped grow my website.
You’ll want to promote it with all your friends, on all your social media sites and even in some online groups. Find groups who are interested in what you have to offer.
You have to first create and build your brand. Find a subject matter that people will be interested in. That can be almost anything. If you talk about what you love, people who also love those things will be attracted to you.
The reason my website become popular was because I was offering valuable information to the people who were coming to visit. My target market was very defined – Square Dancers. Obviously someone who wasn’t into dancing would find nothing interesting on my website.
Build your list. Without a good email list you will have no way to know who “your people” are and you won’t have a way to stay in touch with them.
Feed valuable content to them via your email list on a regular basis. Give them a reason to look forward to hearing from you. Then you can start to include your offers, subtly.
Once people know you, like you and trust you, they will be more likely to click on your offer to find out what else you’re doing, and some of them will even follow you.
Continue to build your list by blogging regularly, providing value, and building relationships with those on your list. Over time your reach will grow and grow, and you’ll find great success in your business.
