How to Increase Engagement on Facebook Posts

Posts die very quickly in the Facebook newsfeed without engagement.  So how do you lengthen the lifespan of your posts?

One thing I’ve always recommended is that you be sure to reply to every comment on your page.

Besides making the person feel important, it also makes the post look more engaging on Facebook, which then provides your post with more reach.

Steps To Increase Engagement On Facebook Posts

Post Great Content –

Your goal should always be to post great content to get users to engage with your page.

There are three types of posts:

1. Text-only status updates – posted to get Likes and Comments.

2.  Photos/Videos – posted to get Likes, Comments, and Shares.

3.  Links – posted to get traffic to your site.  Don’t expect engagement on these posts.

Be Real –

One of the best things you can do for your social media marketing as a business, brand, influencer, or organization is to be authentic in your posts.

Followers relate to people who are REAL.

Being authentic shows that you are a real person, someone they can relate to.

It helps you be more approachable.

And that’s what builds trust and community.

Tell Your Fans What to Do –

Don’t just assume they’ll Like or Share your post or Comment on it.

Tell them to do what you want them to do.

Tag Relevant People in Your Posts –

Do not tag people in a photo just to get it to show up on their newsfeed.  This is never acceptable.

But if it’s an image that they’re in, go ahead and tag them.

A great idea is to wait 10 minutes after posting the picture before you tag it.

This way, your photo will have an extended life because the first wave of people will see the image on their newsfeed, and then when you tag it, the second wave of people will see it.

Post the First Comment –

After you ask a question, wait about 10 minutes or so, and then come back and comment on your question.

Give others a chance first, and then add your comment.

This will achieve the same results as above, creating several waves of your post showing up in the newsfeed.

Be Sure to Reply to Every Comment if Possible –

You should always reply to as many comments as possible.

You may miss a few here and there, but replying is an easy way to increase your post’s reach and engagement.

I would wait 20-30 minutes before replying, but try to do it within about four hours at the latest.

Replying to comments will also encourage others to comment — because fans know they’re being listened to.

I’m sure many of you have already been doing the above suggestions, but maybe you hadn’t thought about spreading it out a little.

Hope this helps you get more engagement on your Facebook posts.

p.s. Don’t spend all day on Facebook.  Use an app like Cinchshare to plan out a week or month’s worth of posts in advance.  Then get off the computer and enjoy your life!
