Why is a Conscious Decision So Powerful?
In building a business you hear a lot about motivation and goal setting.
While those are very powerful and necessary for business success, another very important element to your success is your ability to make conscious decisions.
Everything about and around you is a result of your own decisions. Your whole life is a result of your own decisions. “Decision” is the bridge between your thoughts and your actions. If we don’t like where we are, we can look back at the decisions that put is here today.
We make decisions every day – from simple decisions such as brushing your teeth to deciding whether to put cream in your coffee. Everything you do is a result of a decision.
Part of making a decision is accepting the consequences. As such, it makes sense to make those decisions that will eventually make us happy and help us achieve our goals. But that’s not always the case.
For example, when we stay up all night drinking, we are accepting the fact that tomorrow we are going to have a hangover and not feel well. We made that decision, right? So why then do we wake up and complain about being sick after consciously and deliberately making the decision to drink all night?
That’s because, while we did make the decision to get drunk in the first place, we also made an unconscious decision to ignore the consequences. It’s sort of a state of denial, but it’s a state that many of us live in day after day.
As we take responsibility for the consequences of our decisions, let’s also decide to stay in control… Meaning that we also take responsibility for the outcome of our decision.
By taking responsibility we have the power to change the outcome. If we don’t like or agree with the results of our decisions, we can change them. Let’s make our decision a conscious decision.
A conscious decision can also be associated with setting goals. When we set a goal, we consciously agree to follow a set of actions that are required to make that goal become reality. There are many types of goals, from trying to lose weight to wanting to become successful or any other goal.
A weight loss goal is the easiest to explain, so let’s talk about that for a minute. We’ve made the decision to lose weight and we agree to exercise and eat healthy. That was our conscious goal. It’s not difficult, but many people have a hard time accomplishing this. Why?
When we make the decision to eat poorly, subconsciously we are accepting the consequences to look and feel poorly.
Your subconscious goal is stronger than your conscious goal because it is something that is usually based on feelings, and is ingrained inside us. It may be a result of something we internalized when we were very young. These thoughts are also known as limiting beliefs, and they have become a big part of who we are.
By making the commitment that you will make a decision, and agree and accept the consequences, you will gain more clarity in making conscious decisions and your success rate will increase.
Don’t allow yourself to make decisions based on your feelings. Instead make decisions based on what your goals are – decisions that will make you happy and help you achieve your goals

p.s. Think about it, each decision you take can affect your life and the life of others. Hence the life each of us is living at the present moment is a direct consequence of decisions we took earlier in our life. By the same token, our future will be a direct result of the decisions we take everyday.
