They get started, and then a week later they are checking their web logs and see no traffic coming to their website or blog, and already they want to quit.
When you started, were you anticipating get rich quick results? Did someone tell you that you could make thousands your first month? Were you looking to make money FAST?
I’m sorry if that’s what you were told. But an Internet business is no different than any other business. It takes time, effort, determination, and most important… persistence to find success.
The great news about your online business is startup costs are very low, and you get to learn while you earn.
Think about what it took to land your job. What about all the time and effort you invested in your education before you could even find the job you wanted? Even if you didn’t go to college, think back in time the number of years or hours you spent on education before finally getting to your present job. Don’t forget to include the time you spent searching for your job, writing your resume, and attending interviews.
Just like your job hunt, every business takes time to build and grow. A good friend once told me that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in one year, but underestimate that they can accomplish in five years. If you hang in there and persist, you will find the results you are looking for. You just have to keep moving forward even though you might not be able to see results now.
As you are growing your business, record in a journal everything you are doing for your online business. Spend some time away from your desk every now and then and read over your journal to determine what’s working and what’s not. Do more of what’s working and stop doing the things that are not.
One word of caution though… Online businesses are a little different than brick and mortar businesses because you just don’t know who you’re affecting online. Every blog post you write stays out there for years and years, and every day someone new is reading your post. Some people are following every post you write and you just don’t know it. Then one day they’ll raise their hand and say, “I’m in!”
So keep doing the action steps you know you need to do without worrying too much about how well they are working. Just know that as long as you’re taking the right action steps, success will come. If you’re not sure what the right actions are, find someone who is already successful and see what they’re doing. Most of them will gladly share with you what you need to do to find success.
So never stop feeding your website with new content. Your body needs to eat daily and so does your blog. If you can’t blog daily, find a schedule that works for you and stay consistent. Market your blog posts regularly and always look to create connections with others online.
But bottom line… DON’T EVER GIVE UP! Persistence is the most important key to your success!
