Reflections About Facebook

Facebook changes its policies and rules every day.

It’s impossible to keep up with all the changes, and I’m definitely not an expert on the platform.

But here are some things I do know about Facebook:

Facebook is all about People –

When Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook, his premise was to help people connect with each other.  Some of us internet marketers (including me) sometimes forget that Facebook friendships are about people, not just another prospect for your business.

So when Facebook makes a change, it’s primarily the user they have in mind, not your business.

People love their pets –

People sure love those pictures and videos of cats and dogs!  Humor and the ability to share stuff is part of what makes Facebook so great!

On any given day, I bet that at least a dozen of your friends will share some silly pet video that has no bearing on your life – and you’ll watch it!

People hate Spammers –

No one likes Spam.  Facebook users are typically pretty quick to spot and flag content or report your page/profile if they think the stuff you’re sharing is spammy.

People will always Spam –

But no matter how hard we try to block and report spammers, they just keep coming back!  People just can’t help themselves.

Many new internet marketers are being born every day and we need to train them that spamming their facebook friends isn’t going to gain them any loyalty.  Eventually you will learn this if you want to stay in business.

Facebook will always have issues –

The platform is constantly changing.  They have to in order to keep you and I excited and coming back again and again.  But during this process, things break.  It’s just the way it is – get over it!

Last I heard, Facebook had over 1.1 BILLION users.  I imagine with numbers like that, it would be almost impossible to make any change without affecting at least some of them.

You’ll keep coming back for more –

I know that many of my friends have at one point or another said, “I’m done with Facebook!”  They close their account and plan to never return.  But then a couple of days later, they are back.

Facebook gives us a personal connection with our friends that’s just not the same as what you can find in other social networks (at least for now).

I think Facebook is going to be here to stay for a while.  Of course, it will continue to change and evolve, but I believe it’s going to be a large part of our lives for some time to come.
