Social Media Tips

For home business owners, social media is a great way to connect with people, build brand awareness, and spread news quickly.  If you don’t have a social media presence you may be missing out on a lot of exposure.

When using social media, the best way to get a return results from your efforts is to focus on engagement.  Here are some simple steps to help you that won’t take much time at all, but will help you get a positive dialogue going online.

Be Visual –

Images and videos are all the rage in Social Media.   Instagram and Pinterest are growing faster than any other Social Network out there.  Facebook has even recently made changes to their system to show bigger and more vivid images.

Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn, people all respond extremely well to the use of images and graphics.

Use images and video to highlight your content.  This will get your post noticed and more likely to be read, and you audience will be more likely to share these kinds of posts with their friends.

Add a clever sentence to go along with the image, and include a link for more information and you’re well on your way!

Post Regularly –

When your audience and readers know how often to expect updates from you, they will be more likely to read them.  And with Social Media content, the more often your content is read, the more it will be shared.

As long as you are posting regularly – at least 4-5 times per day, and as often as even every hour, you will become predictable and your audience will expect that from you.

The more you post, the more you will build relationships with those on the Social Media site, and the more they will come to know, like and trust you.  Once they start expecting good things from you, they will be likely to respond, comment and engage with you.

Be Genuine –

There is advertising everywhere, particularly on Facebook.  Provide something that stands out – something of value.  Being “real” will help you to distinguish yourself from other pages and the countless ads users are hit with each day.

Give to Give –

I hear people talking all the time about what they’re going to get out of marketing on Social Media. There’s a major problem with thinking like that: 90 percent of what you’re going to do on your Facebook and Twitter account is going to be for the benefit of your followers. It’s only when you’ve gained their respect over time by providing them with quality content can you ask them for something.

Just ask –

I know it sounds simple, but you need to ask people to take the action you desire.  If your content is interesting enough people will be likely to engage, but when you’re specific as to how, they’ll likely do what you ask.

Social Media is about connecting with friends, potential clients and current customers online.  They opted into your page and have already chosen to follow you and are willing to read your updates, so don’t worry too much about being honest with them to encourage better engagement.

Like, comments, and sharing all lead to spreading the word of your brand or business, leading to more awareness and sales down the road.
