If you’re like me, you’ve probably sponsored many people into your business who didn’t do anything. Maybe you felt like it was your fault that you didn’t get them off to a good start, but don’t get down on yourself too much about it.
Hopefully you’re bringing in new team members every month. This is probably the most important thing you can be doing. You see, your new Representatives are going to do what you do. Maybe not consciously, but nevertheless, the leader sets the pace of the team. So it’s important that you model the success behaviors you want to see in your team members.
Here are some principles that will help you sponsor more Distributors who are immediately successful:
Detach from the outcome –
I get really excited when I bring in a new team member, but I’ve learned to temper my emotions. Many times people sit down with someone to go through the presentation and are so attached to what they are saying that it shows in their body language, and that scares away the prospect. Your prospects want to feel that you’re there to help them, not just grow your own business. Don’t worry about whether they join you or not, just concentrate on them and how you can help them. Both you and your prospect will be more relaxed and chances are you’ll actually sponsor more people. Keep in mind that the more presentations you do every day, the less attached you will be to each prospect. If you’re doing 3-5 presentations per day, you’ll not be so worried about what one person says.
Once they get started, keep in mind that you are there to help them find success, but you can’t want it for them more than they want it for themselves. It’s important to match your efforts with theirs.
It’s about duplication –
Maybe you think you can do this business without any help. That may be true, but in our business, that’s not important. What’s important is duplication.
In our business, it’s about one person who brings in a few, who bring in a few, who bring in a few. Getting that duplication happening is key to massive success. Get everyone on a system and make it easy to follow and you’ll be more likely to create that duplication.
Make sure you are using your upline for 3-way calls. Remember, your team is watching you and you want them to also use you for 3-way calls. Make yourself available to your team. People want to feel like they have support and help from someone who is successful and interested in their success.
Be careful what you promise –
Telling your prospect things such as, “this business is easy! All you have to do is share this video with 3 people every day”, doesn’t benefit anyone. We all know that if it were really that easy, the company wouldn’t need you.
It is better to set the expectation that this business is going to take work, but it will be worth it. If you make income promises and people don’t achieve them their first month, you’ve lost another Distributor. Instead set small goals to get them started with some results so they stick around and then you can help them achieve that massive success. Work to get them their first check as quickly as possible.
Our business is simple, but it’s not always easy. Set the proper expectations up front – be honest, and people will stay longer and be more likely to be successful.
Personal Development –
If I can attribute one thing to my success, it would be my investment in personal growth. I’m always reading books and listening to CDs, and attending every event I can to help me grow.
Cultivate an environment of personal growth on your team. Help them understand how much of a difference this can make in their business. Even better, find people who already get it. If two people are doing the exact same thing, yet one has been working on their personal growth and one hasn’t, I can already tell you which will be more successful.

p.s. Whatever you do, teach and how you teach it will be duplicated, so keep it simple!
