Telling People About Your Business
Congratulations on starting a new business!
First thing you need to do is get out there and let everyone know that you’ve just started an online business. Nothing makes a business “real” faster for me than telling the people in my life that I’m starting it.
Then, a curious thing happens when you tell people about your business. They ask questions and offer ideas. They make introductions and identify the competition. And by knowing what you’re doing, they can support you (emotionally or otherwise) as you’re building this incredibly rewarding but sometimes hard thing.
Your only objective is to let people know that you have a business; what it consists of and who you are looking for as customers and business partners.
It is simply your job only to let them know and explain it to them so they’ll understand. It is their choice as to whether they will join you or not. Many won’t and that’s OK. But if you do it right, many will give you referrals to others they know who might be interested. Keep in mind that you are offering something of value that you believe in, and the idea is not to bug or badger anyone. Just notify!
As you talk to people, you will find they will feel one of three ways, and any one of them is great:
1 – They are ready now – “Here’s my credit card, where do I join!”
2 – May be interested, but needs more information. This is someone you could send a link to a webinar.
3 – Not interested right now. No problem, just ask them who they know who might be interested.
Be sure to include everyone in your list of who you’re going to talk to. This should include immediate family, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc., close friends, co-workers, church / organizations, former co-workers, schoolmates, neighbors, everyone you know over 18, and everyone else. Facebook is a great way to reconnect with those from your past.
Here are some common misconceptions about notifying your warm market:
#1 – I need to know everything about the business before I contact anyone. We have a simple business and there is not that much to know. The tools are there to educate, support you and provide this assistance. Your excitement and enthusiasm will go a long way with your prospect.
#2 – I want to be successful first, before I contact anyone I know. As was stated before, you aren’t doing anything but notifying. That is your one business obligation – let people know. If you can’t start with that, where are you going to start and how are you going to generate the success you want to get you to the point of letting your friends and family know about your business?
We aren’t in the business of convincing, harassing or bugging anyone. We are in the business of networking. We network our products and our opportunity and provide more details to those who are interested. That’s it.
So, get busy and launch your business. 🙂

p.s. I love the lifestyle that comes from running an online business. I get to work from home each day, set my own hours, choose my own projects, and enjoy abundant income. It’s hard for me to imagine how I’d feed myself without the Internet. When I think about income generation, I immediately think of the web.
