The Problem With Our Microwave Mentality
Today we live in a microwave society. People have grown accustomed to instant results and instant rewards.
The days of patience seem to be behind us. Nowadays everything has to be done instantly, but it sometimes can be at the expense of our success.
If you were thinking that this “I want it now” culture doesn’t apply to you, then think again. Think back to the last time you walked into the grocery store. Have you ever bought a TV dinner? How about a pre-chopped, pre-washed bag of salad? Perhaps you were too tired from a day at a desk and just had to have your carrots cut up for you.
…Still not you? Ok, I’m willing to bet that there have been times when you’ve become impatient with a web page that took ten seconds longer to load than normal. What were you going to do with those extra ten seconds anyway? Just two years ago that webpage would have taken three times longer to load and yet now we get annoyed that it’s “slow”. And I’ll be the first to admit to this one – Guilty!
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with liking things to be immediate or that buying pre washed salad is bad. I’m just pointing out how this idea of “everything with no effort and no waiting” is ingrained in our society almost to the point where we no longer notice.
BUT for many it has created a false sense of what it takes to be successful in different areas of our lives. In particular look at the idea of…
“Instant money and success when starting a home business”
Because of our “Instant Microwave Society”, many people who try a home business quit before they even get started. Many people get discouraged if they haven’t made a million dollars that first month!
Ok so maybe not a million dollars, but seriously think about it…
In most other businesses it takes thousands, and sometimes even millions of dollars to start most brick and mortar businesses. And the business owners are LUCKY if they make a profit after three years!
Think about Doctors… would it make sense if they went to school and then after three weeks decided that they have learned enough and they go open up a surgical practice and start operating on people! And how much does it cost to setup a practice once they graduate?
So why then, do people bail out on their home business after only a few weeks because they haven’t made any money yet?
A Network Marketing / MLM/ Affiliate Marketing business is a great way to earn a great income. A home business generally offers a very small start up cost – many times you can get started for only $25 to $150. You have the ability to make money your first day, while also the ability to grow and create that dream income that will give you financial and time freedom.
The problem is that starting a home business is still starting a business. Just like any other business, it takes effort, time and dedication.
Sometimes you don’t make money right away. Maybe you don’t see your dreams come true in the first month… or even twelve months… while you are learning and getting your business off the ground.
So, does that mean you should quit?
I would suggest you step back and look at the other successful people in your business. There are successful people, right? If so, then there is no doubt that you too can also be successful.
How long did it take for them to achieve their dreams? If you talk to them you’ll find that most likely they too didn’t make lots of money in the beginning. But they made the necessary time and financial investments to get their business off the ground and start growing. And they got serious and treated it like the business it is.
Most everyone has setbacks. Some make money quicker than others. But the successful ones didn’t give up. They stuck with it and got better every day as time went by. Then they finally had a day when everything “clicked” for them and they realized the power that their home business offered them.
Once people see that power and achieve even a little success, there is no stopping them. They have finally moved past the “Microwave Mentality” and are on their way.
