When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Go to the Couch?

When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Go to the Couch? I was reading an editorial in my local paper today, and it was very interesting how the editor thought that when the times get tough, the tough take to the couch.

Some of the points that the Editor brought out were that due to the struggling housing market, people tended to settle in with what they had. This meant that city dwellers postponed moving to the suburbs and their elders postponed moving to some of the typical retirement areas such as Florida, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Albuquerque. In fact, even though the population grew dramatically this year nationwide, those cities had slowed growth, and Florida actually lost people.

Other points that were brought out is that people work an average of 17 minutes less per day than 2007, and spent less time in sports, leisure and civic activities and eating and drinking. So what did they do with that extra time? Well it appears that they went to the couch. The amount of time watching TV and sleeping increased.

It sounds to me like our nation is depressed. If you fall into this category, please don’t let this happen to you! There has never been a better time to start your own business! Who better to be in control of your life than YOU!  YOU decide what hours you’re going to work. YOU determine how much money you want to make. YOU determine how hard you want to work. And YOU determine when you want to take a vacation. Find something you’re passionate about and start your own business with that passion. Someone once said, “If you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.”

Our parents came from the Industrial Age. That was the basis of our economy for many years; you get a job with good benefits and you retire in 40 years. But it’s not true any longer. Technology is replacing many of the jobs of the past. Today, fortunes are being made by being innovative and coming up with solutions to make better lives for people and delivering those solutions directly to them. The trend today is the Distribution Revolution! People today want to shop online or by phone and want products delivered directly to them at home. Home based businesses are Hot these days!

The thing is… the difference between where you are and failure is no greater than the distance between where you are and success. They’re the same! You just need to choose which side you want to be on – the success side or the failure side. Move up or move down. Pick a direction and Make it Happen!
