So we’ve been talking a little about the Book, called you2 by Price Pritchett. This tiny book contains 18 principles that can help you have a quantum leap your life.
Today I want to talk about his principle titled Ignore Conventional Approaches.
When you hear that, ignore conventional approaches, doesn’t part of you want to step back and say, “Wait a minute. There’s safety in conventional approaches. I already know that works!” Of course you do!
I don’t remember where I read it, but I remember a quote that said something to the effect of, We become strangely loyal to conventional approaches that continue to product conventional results.
So what Pritchett is saying here is be willing to shake some things up.
When you were a little kid and you wanted to walk, you shook some things up. When you wanted to learn to ride your bike, you shook some things up.
My friend Sarah has two kids, 5 years old and 8 years old. For Christmas they got these shoes with wheels built in them. Once you learn how to use the shoes you can just glide right along like skates.
Well the 5 year old got it really fast. But the 7 year old struggled with it. He tried to do it, but he’d fall over. I watched him do it over and over again. And his conventional approach about how he rode a bike, or how he rode his skateboard… did not work for these skates. He had to be willing to try some unconventional things.
He recognized that it was possible. And if it was possible for his sister, then of course it was possible for him.
Whatever is your quantum leap… if it’s possible for anyone, then it’s possible for you. Because the same mind you think with is the same mind that governs the entire universe. But that mind works its own way.
Just like electricity works its way. If electricity worked our way, we would have had electricity way before we did. We had to learn how to work in harmony with electricity. And as we learn to work in harmony with electricity, we had the freedom not only to have light wherever we wanted, but over time we learned how to focus that light to produce laser and cut through steel.
Whatever seem to be the problems or difficulties or challenges in your life today, I promise you that the conventional approaches are not going to produce your quantum leap.
So the first change in your conventional approach is to be willing to think differently about this. Instead of seeing it as a problem, see it as an opportunity. Instead of seeing all the difficulty with it, practice seeing how this could benefit you. Try some different things. Shake it up! Try on some new thinking and new behaviors regarding what’s going on in your life. Just shake it up today and try unconventional thinking.
